Thank you so much for your generous donation to the Belfast Soup Kitchen.

In 2021, The Belfast Soup Kitchen saw a dramatic increase in the need for food. We responded to this need by adding several programs to meet the needs of our community. We supported families in low-income housing units in the summer months when school meals are not available by delivering 7 days of breakfast and lunch, as well as nutrition education opportunities, for children 0-18. Additionally, we are providing a meal delivery service for veterans and elderly shut ins across Waldo County, not only providing 7 days of meals but also weekly grocery support. Partnering with local organizations and businesses, we are piloting new programs for working families to fill the gap in their food needs by offering complimentary CSA style farm boxes filled with locally grown produce and fully prepared evening meals on a weekly basis. These two programs also support local farmers with a fair price for their goods boosting the local economy. In house, we are dehydrating the abundance of local vegetables we receive and creating dried soup mixes to be utilized year round.

Guests are enjoying a full service meal experience in our light filled dining room Monday – Friday where they are treated with dignity and respect by our giving volunteers. Prior to our lunch service, we offer a coffee hour which not only provides an opportunity for socialization but also access to wrap around services in our community with partner agencies. We continue to provide takeout/curbside service for the convenience that it offers some of our guests. At the end of October 2021, the Belfast Soup Kitchen provided almost 75,000 meals to the community, a 93% increase over 2020!

Your generous gift of support is helping us to keep up with increasing expenses and continue to serve the needs of the Waldo County community. Without the generosity of volunteers and donors like you, we would not be able to fulfill our mission as effectively as we do. We are proud to be partnering with YOU to make a difference in our local community!

Sincerely,

Cherie Merrill, Executive Director
