Volunteer with Hope at Home
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the requirements to be a Hope at Home Volunteer?
A: Applicants must be 18+ years old, have a drivers license and reliable transportation, and be able to pass a background check. Once accepted, volunteers attend an orientation and complete training.

Q: What kind of time commitment is expected from volunteers?
A: Hope at Home is very flexible! Depending on the volunteers and guests needs, visits can be once a month, or once a week, or anywhere in-between. Visits are typically 2-4hours.

Q: Can I choose what tasks to do?
A: Yes! We want our volunteers to feel comfortable and supported. We match volunteers availability with guests needs.

Q: What if I feel uncomfortable with something a community member asks?
A: We want our volunteers to feel safe and supported. If you feel uncomfortable doing a task requested, you may decline.

Q: Can volunteers receive payments or gifts from participants?
A: No. To maintain the integrity of our program and the safety of everyone involved, there should be no exchange of money or goods between volunteers and participants under any circumstances. All services are given freely by volunteers through Belfast Soup Kitchen.
